Who we are
Dorus Everwijn
Dorus Everwijn, President of Global Biopolymers Industries
Dorus holds an MSc. with honors in Chemical Engineering from Delft University and an MBA from Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He brings extensive expertise in engineering, business development, and financing.
Before joining GBI, he spent 31 years at McDermott (former Chicago Bridge & Iron Company) where he served as Director of Project Finance, leading the structured funding for numerous complex, international projects including LNG plants, Petrochemical plants and oil refineries.
As President of GBI he drives strategic growth, investment, and R&D to accelerate biodegradable technologies to deliver both community impact and strong business erformance. Under his direction, GBI has become a trusted partner in circular economy solutions, driving progress toward a cleaner, more sustainable future making regular breakthroughs through collaboration, research, and responsible growth.

Our plans
To achieve our ambition of becoming a leading player in sustainable biopolymers we are focusing on three key areas: establishing our manufacturing plant in the UAE with Emirates Biotech, developing partnerships with ambitious lactic acid feedstock manufacturing businesses and by developing Emirates Biotech to explore options for future PLA production plants.
GBI’s journey has only just begun. Our first flagship project, a 135,000 sqm/ 80 Kilo Tonnes per Annum (KTA) industrial hub, and the largest in the world, is being developed by our subsidiary company, Emirates Biotech, and has just begun construction.
We are creating significant partnerships with businesses that apply PLA biopolymer technology in innovative ways across the globe.
